Hyderabad: Forest and Environment Minister Jogu Ramanna on Monday issued orders instructing the Forest department officials to kill wild boars, which have been causing huge damage for the agricultural crops in many districts in the State. The farmers have also been permitted to shoot the boars with or without prior permission from the department.

Taking serious note of increasing complaints from the farming community on the intrusion of boars in the fields, the Minister held a review meeting attended by PCCF (wildlife) PK Sharma and others at his chambers in the Secretariat.

Ramanna said cases would not be filed against the farmers, who kill the boars, under the Wildlife Act. To contain monkey menace in the villages, the Minister said Rs 55 lakh was released to create a trained special team and catch the simians. Monkeys caught by the teams would be left in the forest areas.
