Hyderabad: The police will not remain mute spectators in the face of chain-snatching incidents under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits, said Police Commissioner C V Anand here on Wednesday.
Speaking at a media conference at his office, Anand was confident that the newly-created ‘Anti-Snatching’ teams would bust the chain-snatching gangs. “The teams are trained to act cautiously in public places and catch the chain-snatchers moving on high-speed bikes. The personnel are trained to shoot at the culprits as a last resort,” he said.
On the botched operation at Vanasthalipuram where two chain-snatchers managed to escape despite the policeman opening fire at them on Monday, Anand said “The team was randomly positioned at the spot. The newly-recruited constables in the team had failed to react appropriately at the spot.
It was not a decoy operation. It is unfortunate that some persons in the department are trying to defame their fellow officers who are outstanding in their performance,” he said.He issued a stern warning that the ‘Anti-Snatching’ teams this time would not leave chain-snatchers if they were found.
