Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice Challa Kodanda Ram on Friday voiced in no uncertain terms its disapproval of the stance of the Telangana government to regularise the occupation of unauthorised occupants of land earmarked for weaker sections at Suraram Colony on the outskirts of the city.

The specially constituted bench is hearing a contempt case filed by K R Bharati and others complaining of contempt of directions of the court made in December 2008. A bench of the court presided by the then Chief Justice and Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy. The bench then took note of the fact that the authorities had taken steps to evict the unauthorised occupants from the land. The bench directed that the eviction be completed within two months .

In the present contempt case before the bench it is noticed that the encroachers were still squatting on the property. The district collector informed the court that it is the present policy of the government to regularise their occupation. The visibly angry bench wondered how the government could even think of doing that in light of its specific directions . It is in the nature of a challenge to the very existence of the state the bench said while reserving its verdict.
