Hyderabad: After three long years of waiting, students belonging to beedi workers families can now avail the scholarship of the Central government. This was disclosed by Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday.

He informed that his department has released Rs 13.99 crore for the purpose. Speaking to press persons here on Tuesday, on the occasion of his completion of one year in office, he said that over 1.2 lakh students would be benefitted out by the decision.

He said he had given utmost priority to employment generation, and to improve the safety and working conditions of labourers across the country. Responding to a query on BJP’s drubbing in Bihar Assembly polls, he pointed out that BJP had lost by whisker in nearly 50 constituencies with a margin less than 1000 votes. “Caste equations were a big factor and it had upset BJP's applecart in the Bihar election,” he opined.

Hitting out the Congress, Dattatreya advised them not to read too much into the election outcome. He said the BJP had risen from two MP seats to attain power at the Centre. On the contrary, he said the ruling Congress had been completely relegated to less than 40 seats in last elections, indicating its losing ground among electorate.
