Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday announced that the government would provide fine rice to government junior and degree colleges and university hostels from the next academic year.

KCR took this decision after a meeting with education and social welfare department officials here on Friday. The government has also decided to make separate allocations towards fine rice in the next State budget. The Chief Minister said that the State had been sponsoring Rs 700 crore towards super fine rice in government schools.

He has also taken a call to clear Rs 7 crore in arrears towards mess charges between 2005 and 2014 pertaining to Osmania University students. Rao directed the concerned officials to pay the full amount in one go. He also asked them to provide better coaching to BC, SC and ST students so that they excel in competitive, state-level and nationwide examinatios.

The Chief Minister told to impart the required coaching with regard to TOEFL and GRE for students who plan to pursue their higher studies abroad.
