Govt nod for medical college at Palamur

Hyderabad: By the next academic year 2016-17, a new government medical college with 150 seats will be established in Mahbubnagar. The State government gave administrative sanction for Rs 450 crore on Tuesday to start the college. The medical college will be established at Yedira village on the outskirts of Mahbubnagar town. In August the government issued essentiality certificate for establishment of a new Government Medical College.

The government general hospital at Mahbubnagar has 15 acres of surpluse land. In addition to this, the Mahbubnagar District Collector earmarked 23 acres for the college at Yedira. The government recently increased the bed strength of the hospital from 200 to 350. After establishing medical college, the bed strength would be increased to 1,000 beds.

There are only about 3,000 MBBS seats in the State. The Mahbunagar College will add 150 more seat, taking total to 3,150 seats from the next academic year. Dr M Ramani, Director of Medical Education, told The Hans India that the Medical Council of India (MCI) inspection team would visit shortly to inspect the place where medical college would come up.
