24 arrested for diverting PDS rice in Cyberabad
As many as 24 persons were arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Teams on Sunday from various places on charges of diverting the Public Distribution rice to private persons.
Hyderabad: As many as 24 persons were arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Teams on Sunday from various places on charges of diverting the Public Distribution rice to private persons.
The police said that the arrested persons include a stage-II contractor, ration shop dealers, rice mill owners, owners of paint shops and some private agents, when they were diverting the PDS rice and kerosene oil. On credible information, raids were carried out on storages at Keesara, Bala Nagar, Medipally, Uppal and Shamshabad areas.
During the raids, the police have seized 455 quintals of PDS rice, over 1,000 litres of kerosene oil worth Rs 11.5 lakh along with Rs 3.66 lakh cash, two lorries, one van and one auto trolley from the accused. Five separate cases have been registered against the accused and efforts are on to nab 34 absconding persons, the police said.
