Warangal: A tough task ahead for the TRS as far as selection of candidate to the lone Legislative Council seat from the Warangal Local Bodies Constituency, Quite a few district leaders are aspiring for the party ticket to contest.
In fact, the announcement of elections to the Legislative Council from Local Bodies Constituencies on Tuesday came on the heels of the thumping victory of the TRS candidate in the just-concluded Warangal Lok Sabha byelection. The party leaders, who are obviously elated at the massive majority the TRS candidate secured, are now busy drumming up support for their respective candidatures for the party ticket.
Many an aspirant have already left for the State Capital not to fall behind in the race for the ticket as the Election Commission is set to issue the notification on December 2 with last date being December 9 for filing of nominations.
TRS district unit president Takkallapalli Ravinder Rao, former MLC Konda Murali, SR Group of Institutions chairman A Varada Reddy and senior leader Nagurla Venkateshwarlu are said to be among leaders in the race.
Ravinder Rao, a loyal party activist, did not bear a grudge against the high command when it chose Palla Rajeshwar Reddy as the candidate for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduate’s Constituency seat. He has earned good name for effective functioning of the party in the district for the last three years. He also tried for Palakurthy Assembly constituency ticket in 2014, but in vain. It is said that he had the assurance of TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao after he was denied opportunity for Graduate’s constituency.
By securing 68.28 per cent vote share in Warangal East, highest in seven Assembly segments in the Lok Sabha constituency, in the Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll, its MLA Konda Surekha strengthened her husband Murali’s claims for the ticket for the Council.
Varada Reddy, who lost the election for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgoda Teachers' Constituency seat in 2013, is another candidate reportedly in fray for the Local Bodies Constituency ticket.
Another leader Nagurla Venkateshwarlu, who has been with the party since its inception, is banking on his seniority in the party. He is said to be having the blessings of Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar.
Party may also think over the candidatures of Gudimalla Ravi Kumar, who was denied ticket for the Warangal Lok Sabha by-poll in the eleventh hour, and senior leader Peddi Sudrashn Reddy, party sources said. Affirming his aspiration to contest for the Local Bodies Constituency, T Ravinder Rao told The Hans India: “I always abide by the decision of the party chief KCR.”
