Hyderabad: Several Christian leaders representing All India Independent Churches (AIIC) Diocese decried the State government’s decision to celebrate the Christmas by distributing clothes. They felt it would not only show the community in poor light, but would also be insulting.

All India Independent Churches Union leader Bishop Sebastian addressing a press conference at Press Club in Hyderabad on ThursdaySpeaking to media persons here on Thursday, Bishop Dr R Harry Sebastian, chairman of Diocese, recalled the promise made by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who had assured Christian Bhavan by the Christmas 2015. Rather than providing space for much needed graveyards, KCR is shedding crocodile tears with his tokenism.

“The Chief Minister has come up with the idea of ‘clothes distribution’ with an eye on GHMC elections,” he felt. Demanding seats in the upcoming civic body polls, Sebastian cautioned the government that if it fails to provide seats the Christians would fight the civic polls independently.

He demanded the government to provide at least 7 per cent reservation to the community. Defining Minority as the group of various communities, he also demanded posts for the Christians in government-run Minority institutions.
