Hyderabad: The State government in the coordination with Centre will procure the tur dal (Red Gram) from the farmers in Telangana at the market price. The government generally procures the red gram and stores it as a buffer so that it could be used during the lean season when the prices go high for the benefit of general public.

In this regard, Additional Secretary for Cooperation and Farmers Welfare of Ministry of Agriculture Sh Ahok Dalwai on Monday visited the red gram markets of the State and conducted a meeting with the officers concerned for the procurement. Officers from Telangana Markfed, Food Corporation of India (FCI) and National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing (NAFED) attended the meeting.

The procurement will be ensured the State Markfed with the assistance of FCI and NAFED. The officials are planning to open procurement centres in all the major markets across the State. The officials have declared that the dal will be purchsed at the previous day’s rate in the market. The government will make the payments directly to the farmers through online.

Procurement centre for FCI will be opened in five major markets - Narayanpet, Kodangal, Adilabad, Bhainsa and Asifabad. Similarly, centres for NAFED will be opened in 8 places - Tandur, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Siddipet, Zaheerabad, Boath, Jainoor and Badepalli(Jadcherla).
