Hyderabad: Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu took senior officials in the Tribal Welfare Department to task, for the sorry state of affairs in the State-run tribal welfare schools and hostels.
The Minister held a review meeting here on Monday, following reports of poor amenities in the tribal welfare schools and hostels in different parts of the State. He questioned the officials as to why there were no proper buildings and why they were not being maintained properly.
When toilets are constructed, there is no water. There is no proper administrative machinery in place and the functioning of the tribal hostels is not satisfactory,” he pointed out.
Stating that the officials are showing negligence while discharging their duties, the Minister said, “This has been turning the students’ life miserable.
“Time and again, I have been visiting the tribal welfare schools and hostels but I don’t find any change in the attitude of the officials and efforts to improve the conditions of these institutions, he added.
Ravela said it looks like the officers were coming to hear a Hari Katha performance by him whenever a meeting was convened. But, this would not do any longer and action would be taken against those officials who are neglecting their duties, he added.
The Minister asked senior officials of the department to fix responsibilities of every component and every scheme taken up by the Tribal Welfare department.
He directed the senior officials to file charge sheet against those failing to perform their duties for the improvement of the institutions.
Earlier, the officials briefed him on the reason for the delay in implementation of several works is due to the long-drawn process of seeking approvals from multiple departments.
