Hyderabad: N Avinash (name changed on request), a government job aspirant, was taken by surprise on seeing Telangana State Public Service Commission’s eight-member panel for selecting candidates for the posts of Assistant Executive Engineers (Mechanical) in I & CAD Department.

The TSPSC conducted interviews for the posts of Assistant Executive Engineers (Mechanical) in I & CAD Department at its office here on Wednesday.

“I attended interviews in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Both the interviews had four to five member panel. However, for the TSPSC selection panel, there were eight members including commission members and experts. I was surprised looking at such a big panel,” he said.

While some aspirants were surprised and others got nervous upon seeing more number of panel members for the interview, some aspirants gave thumbs up for TSPSC’s procedure and conduct of interviews.

“At one point I got nervous and stammered, but the panel members made me feel relaxed. The interview lasted for about 20 minutes,” Avinash shares.

While most questions in the theory paper were on the formation of Telangana State, similar questions were asked in the interview too. Some of the questions included projects taken up by the Telangana State after its formation, irrigation status in the State, and some questions on the Telangana movement.

Speaking on how his interview went, D Manoj Kumar, another aspirant, said, “I did my B Tech from Osmania University. I was there in the campus during the peak movement of Telangana agitation. The panel asked whether I participated in the movement. What was the situation during my stay in the campus and how I dealt with it? They also asked how I will resolve the issue of fluorosis in the State.”

Several job aspirants were asked why they chose government job over private ones which pay lucrative scales. A panel member went onto ask that if KTR establishes an industry and offers job with Rs 10 lakh pay scale, will you join the industry or remain in the government sector.

A few aspirants were given case studies like ‘how will you resolve the issue between two women quarrelling over a petty issue affecting the developmental work in the department’. Some candidates were grilled extensively in the departmental works and also on the family front. “They asked me what my parents do and what is their annual income. Where did I do my schooling and college? Overall, the interview went very peacefully and I am content with it,” said A Rajesh Kumar. There are 16 posts in the department and 32 candidates were called for interviews.
