Water Board official summoned for collecting extra VAT
A two-judge Bench of High Court at Hyderabad comprising Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy, on Wednesday, issued notice to the Director Finance of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) requiring him to be present in court within four weeks, to purge himself on the charge of contempt. The contempt petition was filed by Nagarjuna Construction Company.

It was the claim of the company that the court had directed the authorities to refund excess amount collected as VAT. The court earlier had ruled that the authorities had collected 1.25 per cent more than their statutory dues through the court and directed repayment more than three years ago. The authorities failed to make payment. This, petitioner said, was contempt and amount to wilful violation of court order.
