The New Year has begun on a tragic note as six persons lost their lives in separate road accidents in Khammam district. The accidents led to the death of three revellers and three labourers on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

In an accident at Polavaram village in Burgampadu mandal, a B.Ed student of a Bhadrachalam-based college B Akshay was fatally rammed down by an unidentified vehicle while his father who was riding pillion to participate in the New Year celebrations at their home suffered severe injuries and his condition is said to be critical.

In another incident, 30 year old Mallikarjun died after being hit by a speeding motorbike in front of his house while he was bursting firecrackers on New Year’s eve in Medar Bazar of Khammam town. Another motorcyclist was killed while his friend suffered injuries when their bike collided with another unidentified vehicle near Chikkudugunta in Manuguru mandal on Friday.

Three construction labourers lost their lives while another suffered injuries in a gruesome accident when the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a jeep on Thursday in Penuballi mandal.
