Hyderabad: The recruitment of teachers in the government schools is likely to be carried out through Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). Accordingly, the government is making all moves to hand over the teachers’ recruitment from Directorate of School Education to TSPSC.
Presently, the Directorate of School Education holds District Selection Committee for the recruitment of teachers in government schools by following its own rules and norms. The TSPSC is all set to follow the same for filling the teacher posts.
It is learnt that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, at a a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari and Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, had expressed his wish to delegate the teacher recruitment to the TSPSC. He reportedly directed the officials to study the feasibility of recruitment via TSPSC.
This view of government gained significance as TSPSC Chairman Prof Ghanta Chakrapani on Saturday said the Commission was ready to conduct the DSC examination. He said if vacancy positions were given to the Commission, they would start the recruitment process.
Ever since the formation of TSPSC, the Commission has been pressing the government to hand over recruitment of services in all the departments to it. Sources in the Directorate of School Education said the recruitment of teachers would at least take three months of time apart from spending more than considerable resources.
As the officials would be engaged in the recruitment process, there would be no monitoring system in place to check government schools during that period.
The move by the government would reduce burden on the School Education Department and also help the department to focus on the academics and inspections in the government schools.
A senior official of Directorate of School Education stated that the department would have no issue if TSPSC took over the recruitment process.
It is also learnt that the teacher post vacancies in welfare schools and residential schools would also be filled by a joint notification of TSPSC.
According to the sources, there are nearly 11,000 teacher posts lying vacant in government schools. Adding to that, nearly 3,000 teachers would retire from their services by March-end which would take the total number of vacant posts to 14,000.
Meanwhile, TSPSC would hold a national meet of all chairpersons of Public Service Commissions in Hyderabad on February 4 and 5. Chakrapani, who called on Telangana Governor E S L Narasimhan on Saturday invited him to be the chief guest for the two-day conference.
Examination pattern, reforms, among other issues would be discussed in the conference.
