Hyderabad: Telangana Finance Minister Eatala Rajendar on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction over the banks for their delay in disbursing farm loans to the farmers in the scheduled time.

Participating in the ninth SLBC (State Level Bankers Committee) meeting here, he said the government released required funds towards loan waiver scheme, but the banks were reluctant to provide loans to the farmers whose loans were already waived off.

As a result, the farming community resorted to dharnas and protests demanding immediate release of funds. He requested the financial institutions consider extending help to the farmers as a social responsibility and give up adamant attitude towards addressing their issues.

The Minister also suggested the banks to provide loans to those who deserved and keep away ‘middlemen’ system in the approvals. He urged banks to disburse loans to all eligible farmers immediately after the release of funds meant for the waiver of loans in the third installment.

Eatala further requested the officials to provide loans to farmers engaged in sheep, fish and pig rearing. State Principal Secretary to Finance Pradeep Chandra, SLBC president Shanthan Mukherjee and NABARD Chief General Manager VVV Satyanarayana were also present.
