Govt sets up search panels for V-Cs appointment
The Telangana government constituted search committees for appointment of Vice-Chancellor to eight State-run universities.
Hyderabad: The Telangana government constituted search committees for appointment of Vice-Chancellor to eight State-run universities. According the orders issued by the government, the search committees were formed for Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad, Osmania University, Hyderabad, Kakatiya University, Warangal, Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar, Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda, Telangana University, Nizamabad, Dr BR Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad and Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad.
The Principal Secretary to government (Higher Education) is the member of the committee by default. The other members include a nominee of executive council of the concerned university and a nominee from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
For Osmania University, former V-C of OU, Prof Suleman Siddique (university nominee), former V-C of IGNOU Prof HP Dikshit (UGC nominee) and Principal Secretary to the government, Finance Department, K Ramakrishna Rao, were appointed as search committee members.
In case of Kakatiya University (KU), former V-C of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University Prof VS Prasad (KU nominee) and Bharati Vidyapeeth, V-C, Prof Shivaji Rao Kadam (UGC nominee) and Principal Secretary to government, Finance Department, K Ramakrishna Rao, were appointed as search committee members.
In search committee for Palamuru University, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education former chairman Prof P Jayaprakash Rao (university nominee) and ICGEB former director Dr VS Chauhan (UGC nominee) were appointed. Mahatma Gandhi University - OU former V-C Prof T Tirupathi Rao (university nominee) and UGC vice-chairman Prof H Devaraj (UGC nominee).
Telangana University- KU former V-C Prof N Linga Murthy (university nominee) and University of Calcutta V-C Prof Suranjan Das (UGC nominee). For BRAOU- BRAOU former V-C Prof VS Prasad (university nominee) and IGNOU former V-C Prof HP Dikshit (UGC nominee) were appointed.
For Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University - Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education former chairman Prof P Jayaprakash Rao (university nominee) and Central University of Haryana V-C RC Kuhad (UGC nominee). OU former V-C Prof T Tirupathi Rao (university nominee) and UGC member Dr VS Chauhan (UGC nominee) were appointed in the search committee for JNTU-H.
The government had already called for applications from the eligible candidates for the post of vice-chancellor in State run universities. It had also fixed January 8 as the deadline to file applications. The search committees will now scrutiny applications and send three names to government for a final call.
