Warangal: In their efforts to compete at national technical competition ‘Efficar-2016’, the students Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science, Warangal (KITSW) have designed a battery operated car.

It was designed and fabricated by third year B Tech (mechanical) students under the name ‘Team Ratham’ comprising 10 students. The car runs on battery and is eco-friendly.

“The battery of the car is reversible, which means it supplies energy and at the same time receives it,” the team captain K Vikram explained. Once the battery is charged for six hours, it works for more than two-and-half hours and can travel for 40 to 45 kilometres, he said.

“We would demonstrate the car at Efficar-2016 that would be held at University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) in Punjab from January 21 and 26,” Vikram said.

The KITSW Director Y Manohar and its principal K Gururaj have unveiled the vehicle and conducted test run on Wednesday at mechanical engineering department.

Speaking on the occasion, Manohar lauded the students’ environmental consciousness in designing a pollution-free vehicle. Principal Gururaj said car in the future, there would be only battery-run vehicles as whole world was concerned about pollution.

He appreciated the futuristic thought of the students while adding KITSW always supports talent and encourages students in their innovative initiatives.

The ‘Ratham’ team comprises P Sairam Koushik (vice-captain), B Sunil Kumar, P Sriniketh, G Vinod, A Umamahesh, K Praveen, M Arun Prakash, P Jayakrishna and M Parashuram. They are guided by Ch Karunakar.
