Khammam: Elaborate arrangements have been made to organise the three-day pulse-polio immunization programme in Khammam district, beginning on Sunday. On the first day, polio drops will be administered at booth level and house-to-house survey will be conducted on January 18 and 19 to administer the vaccine to all the children, below five years of age in the district.

District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar held a meeting with the officials of various government departments recently and instructed them to conduct the programme with perfect planning to achieve 100 percent target and also urged them to check that no child was left in the district without administering the oral polio vaccine.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, District Medical and Health Officer Kondal Rao said that elaborate arrangements were made to conduct the programme on Sunday (January 17) for administering oral polio vaccine to nearly 2,74,278 children between the age group of 0-5 years. Wide publicity was also given through posters, pamphlets and flexis at all health centres in the district.

He said that a total of 1,703 polio centres were setup in tribal areas and 288 centres in towns along with deploying nearly 11,372 members of staff to administer polio drops to children. He urged all the officials of health department to actively involve themselves along with their staff in the programme for its successful implementation.

Kondal Rao said that polio drops must be supplied to the polio booths before 7 am and the programme must be completed before 11 am at all the centres in the district.

Earlier, Joint Collector K Babu Rao flagged off the pulse polio rally at Pavilion Grounds here on Saturday and urged parents to bring their children aged below five years to the booth on Sunday without fail.

He suggested people who were travelling to give pulse polio drops to their children at the polio centres set up in bus stands and railway stations.

District Immunization Officer Dr Venkateshwarlu, DCHS Dr Anandvani, MEPMA Project Director Venu Manohar Rao, Dr Malati and several anganwadi workers participated in the rally.
