Hyderabad: The activists of TJYF (Telangana Jagruti Youth Front), a cultural outfit headed by TRS MP K Kavitha, on Tuesday raised slogans outside the house of Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya at Ram Nagar here and blamed him for the death of PhD scholar Rohith Vemula, who was found hanging in his hostel room on Sunday, triggering angry reactions.

Holding placards, the protestors demanded that the Minister resign immediately. As many as 37 of the protesters were taken into preventive custody when they held a dharna near the Union Minister's house The students protested against Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya.

They demanded revoking of the suspension of five Dalit research scholars. They also demanded Dattatreya's apology for interfering in University matters and branding the students of University of Hyderabad as “casteists, anti-nationals and extremists.” The city police cordoned off the area around Union Minister Bandaru Dattatraya's residence in Ram Nagar here since Monday. The Riot police rounded up a number of students and whisked them away to a police station.
