Khammam: Rythu Sangham JAC chairman and retired AP High Court judge B Chandra Kumar along with the JAC leaders would tour the district on February 6 to assess the drought conditions prevailing in the district, Rythu Sangham Telangana State joint secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao.

They would submit a report to the State and Central governments, he added. Speaking to the media at Manchikanti Bhavan here on Tuesday, Nageshwar Rao said, “Due to scarcity of water about 30 mandals in the district are facing severe drought conditions. Many fields have dried up. Farmers who expected good returns are extremely worried as their crops withered away in the dry fields. Some of them even committed suicide unable to clear their financial debts.”

He said that during the Rabi season, at least three fourth of the cultivation was affected due to drought in the district. In many places, the bore-wells dried up. Even though the officials had sent a report stating that 24 mandals should be included under drought hit, the government failed to include even a single mandal from the district, he lamented.

“Is it not the responsibility of the ruling party leaders, Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and Zilla Parishad chairpersons to solve the problems of the farmers?” he asked.

The Rythu Sangham leader demanded the government that they declare the district as drought-hit and pay Rs 10,000 ex-gratia per one acre of land to the farmers who faced financial losses due to severe drought along with providing fodder for their cattle.

Nageshwar Rao urged all the farmers in the district to attend in large numbers during the visit of State leaders of Rythu Sangham (JAC) on February 6 to explain their problems.

District leaders of the Rythu Sangham (JAC) M Veera Hanumantha Rao, G Venkateshwarlu, Jagganna and M Ramesh were present along with others.
