After Army, now colony residents blocking roads
It is not just the Air Force Officers Cooperative Housing Society at Vayupuri that blocks roads at night. There are close to half-a-dozen housing colonies in Secunderabad that have erected gates and restricted thoroughfare between 10 pm and 6 am For instance, the road leading to Vikrampuri and the colony opposite to Bata showroom which leads to P&T Colony too is out of bounds for people after 10 p

Hyderabad: It is not just the Air Force Officers Cooperative Housing Society at Vayupuri that blocks roads at night. There are close to half-a-dozen housing colonies in Secunderabad that have erected gates and restricted thoroughfare between 10 pm and 6 am For instance, the road leading to Vikrampuri and the colony opposite to Bata showroom which leads to P&T Colony too is out of bounds for people after 10 pm.
Surender, a resident of Ishaq Colony said, “There is a children’s hospital at Vikrampuri but is out of bounds for people. We requested the colony members, but they just promised that they would remove the gates but nothing happened so far.”
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been receiving complaints from residents. The GHMC has made it clear that colonies do not have the authority to impose night restrictions.
With the Air Force Officers Cooperative Housing Society at Vayupuri showing reluctance to lift the blockade in the area between 10 pm and 6 am, the members of “Open Secunderabad All Roads” (OSCAR) have decided to take out a candle light march today at 5.30 pm to highlight the sufferings of people.
C S Chandrashekar, president of Saibaba Colony said, “The argument that not many use the road at night does not hold any water. What would people do during medical emergency? It is a common road and all should get access to it. Residents living around Vayupuri have been complaining that the road next to Syndicate Bank is the only access road to 60 colonies.”
Members of the North East Colonies of Secunderabad said the representatives of Air Force Officers Cooperative Housing Society at Vayupuri are not relenting. The roads belong to GHMC and the colony associations do not have right to erect gates.
