The historical Sri Sangameshwara Swamy temple wore a festive look with thousands of devotees descending on Teerthala village, 12 kilometers from Khammam, on the occasion of Maha Sivaratri on Monday. The annual three-day jatara which commenced in the wee hours is reverberated with the chants of ‘Aum Namah Sivaya’.

Khammam: The historical Sri Sangameshwara Swamy temple wore a festive look with thousands of devotees descending on Teerthala village, 12 kilometers from Khammam, on the occasion of Maha Sivaratri on Monday. The annual three-day jatara which commenced in the wee hours is reverberated with the chants of ‘Aum Namah Sivaya’.

The devotees, who took a holy dip at the confluence of three rivulets – Munneru, Akeru and Buggeru – offered prayers at the temple. Devotees from Warangal district, especially from Dornakal, Mahabubabad and Kuravi, also attend the jatara every year.

Devotees in large numbers also thronged the 11th Century Ganapeshwaralayam at Kusumanchi, Neeladrishwara Swamy temple at Penuballi, Sri Bhramarambika Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Annapureddypalli, Tegada Veerabhadra Swamy temple at Cherla, Mothegadda Veerabhadra Swamy near Sarapaka, Atmalingeshwaralayam at Paloncha and Guntu Malleswara Swamy temple in Khammam.

Nalgonda: Maha Sivaratri was celebrated with religious fervour on a grand scale at various Shiva temples in the district from the wee hours of Monday.

Devotees in large numbers were seen at the Chaya Someshwaralayam near Panagal, Sri Jadala Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple at Chruvugattu and the Ageshtheshwara Swamy temple at Wadapally in the district. Special prayers including 'Abhishekams' and 'poojas' were performed.

The Shaivite temples reverberated with chanting of the name of Lord Shiva as devotees thronged the temples chanting “Om Namah Shivaya”.

Sri Lakshminarsimha Swamy temple at Yadagirigutta (Yadadri) also witnessed heavy rush of devotees from early in the morning. Thousands of devotees also thronged the Mellacheruvu Swayambu Shambhu Lingeshwara temple.

At the Sri Jadala Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple near Cheruvugattu, the devotees took a holy dip in the koneru (pond) on the hill shrine before having the darshan of the presiding deity of the temple. Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham also participated in special pooja programmes at the temple.

Rudrabhishekam was performed continuously to the Shivalingam in the Chaya Someshwaralayam at Panagal from early morning till late evening.
