Pseudo cop held for extortion
A pseudo policeman was arrested by the SR Nagar police on Monday when he attempted to extort money from a couple going on a bike by posing as a sub-inspector of police.
Hyderabad: A pseudo policeman was arrested by the SR Nagar police on Monday when he attempted to extort money from a couple going on a bike by posing as a sub-inspector of police.
According to the police, they received a call from a women’s hostel management about a man behaving suspiciously and demanding money from a girl. The patrolling personnel rushed to the hostel and took suspect into custody.
On questioning, he revealed his name as Appala Naidu from Guntur and working as an electrician in Hyderabad.
The police said, a boy and a girl in their mid-20’s were travelling on a bike near Water Works office in SR Nagar and Appala Naidu attempted to stop them by posing as a policeman. The boy did not stop the bike and moved ahead to drop the girl near her hostel which is at stone-throw’s distance from the spot.
On seeing the girl entering the hostel, Appala Naidu went to the hostel, introduced himself as special party sub-inspector and demanded the security personnel to call the girl out. When the security personnel denied calling the girl, he pointed a dummy pistol at them and tried to threaten them and asked for money. A case has been booked against Appala Naidu and we are verifying his veracity, the police said.
