Speaking at a review meeting on Panchayat Raj Department attended by Minister for Panchayat Raj KT Rama Rao and officials, he said his government was committed to give more powers and funds to panchayats. 

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday said his government was determined to transfer more powers to gram panchayats for the strengthening of the local bodies. Speaking at a review meeting on Panchayat Raj Department attended by Minister for Panchayat Raj KT Rama Rao and officials, he said his government was committed to give more powers and funds to panchayats.

He asked officials to prepare modalities for the transfer of powers to the local bodies immediately and ensure the enactment in the ongoing budget session of the Assembly. Stating that all the vacant panchayat secretary posts would be filled, the Chief Minister said 20,000 tricycles would be purchased for lifting garbage in villages this year.

The establishment of dump yards and grave yards would be given utmost priority in panchayats, he added. The Chief Minister enquired about the progress in the works taken up under Swach Bharat Mission in all villages and wanted early completion of toilets proposed under the programme.
