KCR and his team spent the first year in understanding the state and its finances and problems. Next year is spent on planning for winning GHMC and other elections. Thus 21 months are over and the status of the following roads remain as they are since two years or even before
1. Road No. 1 of KPHB Colony which was said to be the traffic diversion for Hitech city has been in very bad condition. The RoB at Hitech city rly station is chocking with traffic during peak hours.
2. The road at Rajiv Gandhi traffic junction in JNTU - Malaysian township road is dug long ago and yet to be made good
3. Road near Vaddepali Enclave in Kukatpally to Metro Super Market is yet to be made but during the last 2 years it was dug several times and the condition remains. Several innocent school going children use this road to reach Bhashyam Brooks, DAV Public School, etc. Neither the Managements of these great schools take special care for these roads and ensure their repair nor the so called politicians in this area use their political power for this- perhaps they are busy changing loyalties for their selfish reasons.
4. Hyderabad is a city of spine breakers (aka speed breakers). On the main roads and in the roads inside residential colonies rich people make spine breakers before their homes!! These spine breakers are also built by a famous school called Bhashyam Brooks. This is the civic sense of an educational institute calling it self as Formula School. Every day many commuters curse those responsible for this.
5. The tanks in the city are yet to be repaired and desilted - thanks to mission Kakatiya, the plans and approvals are on the papers since two years. So much precious rain water is wasted and the ground water levels have fallen drastically. Now the rainy season is approaching and yet the work is to be started. We might as well miss this rainy season too to store and enable percolation. Thanks to Mission Kakatiya.
6. Avenue plantation started on adhoc and highly improper manner during 2013 and even after TS govt formation. The greenery is fast eroding in the city. Two rainy seasons were missed and this rainy season is about to be missed with only planning and no implementation. GHMC avoided many works on the pretext of elections, after elections too there is no movement in this direction which is the supplier of oxygen to the city.
7. Desilting of drainways is being done every year spending crores of public money. Thus public money is literally drained out by the GHMC officials ceremoniously every year. This year too it will happen in a manner that sustains inefficiency and corruption. First the drains are not built as per standards and the drain hole caps are made with very poor quality and are being replaced several times causing draining of public money.
8. Hyderabad is now the National Capital of stray dogs where dogs eat just born babies and bite kids and adults often to prove their power. Nights are marked with barking of dogs in teams terrifying the kids and making the night movement vulnerable.
9. The RTA office in Kukatpally is the best example of civic sense. The road that leads to it is damaged two years ago and no action is taken but in March 2016 the RTA officials made again two spine breakers on the road making the drive horrible.
10. Lack of civic sense is the hallmark of GHMC and its staff. Added to this is the behaviour of Auto and Six Seater Drivers who drive harshly, stop at their will even at traffic points to do their business, charge extra, behave rudely. The city buses are the example of Poor Governance. They emit more polluting gases than the private vehicles. Even a traffic police becomes a mute spectator when an auto, truck, a govt bus, goes on emitting thick clouds of smoke right on the faces of people on the road. GHMC elections are over and there are no signs of starting the repair works in a transparent manner.
Accountability in GHMC staff and Corporators can only transform this great city into truly global city. For every public work the GHMC starts there shall be a notice board with all the details and time lines and contact details of concerned officials and contractor. GHMC shall publish public works in its website and update it every week. I had stated in several articles in The Hans India the need for this and its urgency.
Hope is the only source for the life to continue.
A citizen of Hyderabad.
