Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has launched a pilot project to develop infrastructure, specifically in the 47th division, on Sunday. The project envisages conducting a study and addressing issues related to drinking water, roads, drainage, street lighting, markets, community halls, burial grounds, health, education and other civic problems.

A decision in this connection was taken during a recent meeting of the GWMC council. Warangal Mayor Nannapaneni Narender and MLA D Vinay Bhasker launched the project at TV Tower Colony in the municipal division in the presence of MLA Aroori Ramesh, MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao, Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu and Municipal Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Speaking to the media after launching the project, MLA Vinay Bhaskar said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was planning to develop Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation on the lines of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. As part of the Chief Minister’s plan, Rs 300 crore were allocated in the State budget towards infrastructure development under GWMC.
The funds would be used to develop the 47th division as a model one. If the project becomes successful, it would be emulated in all the divisions under the Corporation, the MLA added. Mayor Narender said the city has already got prestigious projects like Hruday, Amrut and it was expected to be included in Smart Cities Project soon.
On behalf of the Corporation, a detailed project report (DPR) would be prepared to address issues in 47th division, he added. Commissioner of Police Sudheer Babu inaugurated a closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) installed in the colony by the residents. He called upon residents in all the colonies to come forward to install CCTVs.
Earlier, the MLAs, the MLC and the City Mayor have taken out a motorcycle rally from the Roads & Buildings guest house to the colony marking the launch of the project. They also interacted with the residents of the colony learning about the problems related to infrastructure.
