TJAC gets proactive
Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram said they would chalk out an action plan and take the support of all political parties in highlighting the problems of the people and bring them to the notice of the government for their redressal.

Kodandaram demands white paper on project redesigning
Hyderabad: Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram said they would chalk out an action plan and take the support of all political parties in highlighting the problems of the people and bring them to the notice of the government for their redressal.
Addressing the media after a six-hour-long steering committee meeting, Kodandaram said the JAC has resolved to ask the state government to take steps to revive the Nizam Sugar Factory (NSF) at Bodhan, Sirpur Paper Mills and stop open cast coal mining in Singareni areas.
The JAC has also resolved to demand the government to release a white paper on re-designing of the irrigation projects, declare the drought-hit mandals, stop purchasing electricity from private firms and opt for firms like the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) and Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TS GENCO).
Kodandaram said the state government should recognise the sacrifices made by the martyrs during the Telangana agitation and do justice to their families. Among the resolutions passed by the JAC included implementation of the GO-11 pertaining to the salary hike of government employees, to do away with outsourcing (recruiting employees) and regularise the services of the existing contract employees.
The TJAC chairman has also demanded the government to provide 70 per cent employment in the private sector to the Telangana people and implement the mid-day meal programme in summer in the wake of drought conditions. Kodandaram further asked the government to protect the artisans like carpenters, weavers, washermen, goldsmiths, etc, who were losing their livelihood on account of modernisation.
The JAC has also wanted the government to release a detailed project report (DPR) and cost benefit analysis. Explaining the future course of action, Kodandaram said, “The role of preparing people for a just struggle may be over, but we indeed have responsibility in seeing that their aspirations are fulfilled and fruits of securing a separate State reach all sections of the people”.
Commenting on the agrarian crisis, he said that three critical issues like debt, reducing the cost of raising crops and increase income levels of farmers through allied activities such as dairy, poultry and even cottage industries should be addressed by the state government.
He said the TJAC would play a proactive role in ensuring that the farmers will get timely crop loans and also in liberating them from being caught in the web of perpetual indebtedness. Besides this, he said the TJAC would take up padayatras in Telangana to study the issues pertaining to health and education.
