It had already released drought funds based on the reports submitted by the State government as well on its own assessment too. He was replying to a question of TRS MP B Vinod Kumar, who sought to know the specific measures adopted by the Centre in this regard.

He said the new State of Telangana was into the third consecutive drought year and was facing a huge water crisis too. Out of 450 mandals, nearly 70 per cent were drought hit. The 14 major reservoirs across Krishna and Godavari rivers had reached dead storage level.

The State government had requested the Centre for an assistance of Rs 3,064 crore. The Centre had announced only Rs 791 crore but released only Rs. 400 crore. With regard to the drinking water supply, the government had asked for an assistance of Rs 555 crore, but the Centre had released only Rs 72 crore, he said.
