Filipino nurse gets Hyd healing touch

​Hyderabad: The Telangana Tourism Department, the local police and Apollo Hospitals have come to the rescue of a nurse from Philippines, Grace Alexandria, who works in Dubai, in performing the last rites of her newborn daughter last week. She had delivered the infant while travelling by an Emirates flight from Dubai to Manila to visit her parents.

Since the baby’s health was causing concern, Grace was asked to disembark here and the flight left after making an emergency landing at RGIA for its destination. The Apollo doctors at the airport, who examined her and the infant, shifted them to the hospital in Jubilee Hills, but could not save the baby.

Grace had difficulty in leaving for Philippines along her daughter’s body. Following information provided by the hospital, the police tried to persuade the nurse to complete the funeral ceremony here itself.

But it was opposed by some churches who insisted that only their members could perform the funeral. Five Filipino families staying here came to her rescue.

When the Tourism department secretary Venkatesham learnt of the plight of Grace, he visited the hospital and assured to extend all help to her on Monday last. The funeral was conducted at Trimulgherry on Tuesday under the supervision of the department staff and the police.

The Apollo Hospital offered Grace a discount. Venkatesham assured her that the department would meet the cost of her bill, the ticket fare and other expenses.

He told The Hans India that the State government would also extend similar help to visitors to the city who face such hardship.
