`5 lakh fine collected in ten-day drive

Mahabubabad (Warangal): The officials of police and road transport departments have jointly organised a road safety awareness rally in the town on Saturday.

The local DSP, Rajamahendra Naik, circle inspector B Nandiram Naik, motor vehicle inspector K Ranga Rao and others participated in the rally, highlighting the road safety measures like wearing helmets and seat belts.

Speaking on the occasion, Ranga Rao informed that special drives have been conducted during the past ten days and erring vehicle riders were fined. About Rs 5 lakh were collected during the ten days drive in the form of penalties. Nearly 30 accidents were reported in and around Mahabubabad town within last one month and most of the victims were youth.

In order to create awareness among public and to prevent the accidents special drives and the rally and was conducted, he added.

The response from public was good to special drives and majority of the vehicle riders were now wearing helmets and seat belts, Ranga Rao added.
