Karimnagar: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao expressed the hope that Karimnagar district would become Konaseema in the next few years.

Addressing a press conference in Dharmaram mandal on Saturday, he said that efforts were on to irrigate at least one lakh acres in each of the Assembly constituency of the district.

“The district is set to receive the ‘first fruits’ of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP),” the Minister asserted, while pointing to the irrigation facilities of 25 TMC Ft-Lower Manair Dam, 25 TMC Ft-Mid Manair Dam, 20 TMC Ft-Medigadda barrage and other reservoirs.

Referring to the construction of Pathipaka reservoir, Harish said that it would provide irrigation facility to 2.27 lakh acres in four mandals – Manthani, Dharmaram, Peddapalli and Choppadandi. He said that utmost care has been taken to reduce the submergence area under this dam.

The Minister assured that he will ensure R&R package as quickly as possible to the displaced. Earlier, he inspected the works of Laxminarasimha Sagar reservoir site and under tunnel works at Sayampet.

Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar, Peddapalli MP Balka Suman and ZP chairperson Tula Uma were among others present.
