Hyderabad: The government has decided to take up scientific study before deciding on carving new districts. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who had a detailed discussion with the district collectors on Monday over the issue, instructed the officials to prepare maps, address land disputes and create urban mandals while preparing the draft proposals.

The Chief Minister told the Collectors to play a major role in preparing the report on new districts and asked them to come out with concrete proposals on new districts when the government would hold a workshop to take a final call sometime during June. “The government,” he said, “wants to bring all the newly-formed districts into existence from Dasara in October this year.”

KCR also emphasised that the distance between the head quarter and every village in the particular district should not be more than 60 km to 70 km so that people can come and register their grievances on a single day.

The reorganisation of revenue divisions should also be done for the smooth governance, he said. Citing the AP Reorgansiation Act, the Chief Minister said that the number of assembly constituencies would go up to 153 from the present 119 hence the total number of districts would also increase from 10 to 24 or 25.

“After the formation of new districts, each district will have four to five assembly constituencies and nearly 30 mandals,” he said. The Chief Minister said that Rs 100 crore has been allotted for the construction of government buildings in every new district headquarters.
