Warangal: The leaders of Save Education Committee (SEC) have strongly opposed the State governments’ proposal to close down the government primary and upper primary schools on the pretext of poor enrolment of students. A roundtable meeting was held in Hanamkonda town on Friday under the aegis of the SEC.

Addressing the gathering, SEC state president Prof K Chakradhar Rao demanded the government to run the schools without any connection with students’ strength and give up the idea of merging the schools with poor enrollment with neighbouring schools. The closure of government schools would deprive rural students, mainly girls from receiving education and would not augur well for the future of the State in the field of education, Chakradhar Rao added.

The TRS government was acting like the previous government and was going ahead with closure of schools, he alleged. The SEC president said that instead of setting up residential schools at selected places for certain sections, residential schools should be set up at every village in order to bring into existence a common school system.

Every school should be provided with one teacher for one classroom with a headmaster, one physical education teacher and minimum facilities like drinking water, toilets, attender etc, he added. Chakradhar Rao said that the government should follow the directive of Allahabad High Court, which suggested that the wards of politicians, IAS, IPS and other top ranking officials should be admitted in government schools.

The government should close down private schools being run without permission and should not give permission for setting up new private schools in the State, Prof Chakradhar Rao demanded.
