Mahbubnagar: The land acquisition activities for the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation (PRRLI) project is set to pick up pace with the officials adopting multipronged strategies to meet the farmers’ demands. Particularly, the farmers at Udandapur Reservoir have been demanding that the reservoir capacity be reduced from 15 tmcft to 9 tmcft and seeking the best of the packages for their submerged lands under the project.

According to Linga Raju, Chief Engineer of PRRLI, till date the Revenue authorities had acquired about 10,400 acres of land and handed over the same to the project officials. However, the officials were yet to acquire 14,400 acres of land from the farmers to take up the project. “Of the total 24,800 acres of land required, the Revenue officials had handed over 10,400 acres of land to us,” said the CE.

Since almost half of the land required for the mammoth lift irrigation project was already acquired, the Revenue officials have decided to speed up the process of completion of acquisition. The officials have been carrying out the final survey and demarking of the lands and fixing compensation for the lands to be acquired. The land acquisition process is expected to be completed in next two-three months.

As their lands are in close proximity to the Polepally SEZ, the farmers are expecting at least Rs 10-12 lakh compensation per acre in addition to rehabilitation, said Devija Naik of Vollur village. At present the State government has allocated Rs 35,200 crore for the PRRLI project for the construction of six reservoirs starting from Narlapur, Yedula, Vattem, Karvena, Udandapur and KP Laxmidevipally.

The entire project has been divided into 18 packages starting from Narlapur to Udandapur. The various categories of packages include pump package, bund package, open channel packages and tunnel packages. The government has set a target to complete the entire project in the next 2-3 years and provide
