Mahabubabad/Warangal: Health minister C Laxma Reddy has proposed to increase the capacity of Mahabubabad Area Hospital to 300 beds from the existing capacity of 100 beds.

The increased number of beds at the hospital would benefit of tribals in Mahabubabad division he said speaking after inaugurating a Special Care Newborn Unit (SCNU) set up at the cost of Rs 60 lakhs at the hospital on Monday.

He also inaugurated a digital X-Ray unit, a modern lab and C-Mac video laryngoscope centre and assured that steps would be taken to set up to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Blood Bank and a Dialysis Centre at the hospital.

Efforts would be made to address the problems being faced by the area hospital by providing all the required facilities. The hospital would be equipped with modern medical facilities on par with corporate hospitals he added.

Laxma Reddy said the TRS government was committed for the welfare of poor and underprivileged sections of the society. He urged the doctors to work with the dedication while warning that they would have to face action if they neglect the duties.

He further said that the construction of separate rooms for conducting postmortem at Thorrur and Palakurthy hospitals would soon be started. The State government was making efforts to fill up about 2,110 vacant posts in health department.

Local MLA B Shankar Naik and district medical and health officer B Sambasiva Rao were present. Later in the day, the Minister along with Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhasker and mayor N Narender visited survey and land records office at mini-municipal premises at kazipet.

It was proposed to set up a 30-bed hospital in the first floor of the office. MLA Vinay Bhasker informed the Minister that a referral centre was sanctioned in the year 2000 under National Health Mission and it was supposed to start function in 2005.

Hence urgent steps should be taken to commence the hospital for the benefit of the locals, he urged. The Minister responding positively to the request said a decision would soon be taken on the issue.
