Hyderabad: The officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are furious at the officials of nformation Technology (IT) Department as the latter is taking lukewarm attitude towards the State government’s flagship programme “Haritha Haram.”

The programme is intended to plant 25 lakh sapling on a single day on July 11 to make it a world record.

According to GHMC officials, the IT authorities had not responded to the request by the former to develop a web portal to upload the species of the saplings and the number of plants to be planted and also number the distribution
centres.

Meanwhile, the GHMC officials said they were considering roping in not less than 50,000 volunteers and encouraging government departments to participate in the programme.

As per GHMC urban bio-diversity wing officials, in fact it was the Telangana State IT Department had proposal to plant 25 lakh saplings on a single day, but failed to pay any attention on action plan. The Official said that the authorities had even approached NASSCOM and Confederation of

Indian Industry (CII) several times, but they had failed to respond to the proposals made by the GHMC.
The GHMC official said the government departments have, however, evinced interest in taking up the Harita Haram. He felt that it was next to impossible to achieve the target if everyone joined in the programme.

A senior official told The Hans India that the civic body had asked National Informatics Centre (NIC) to develop software to upload the plant species, their number and distribution centres.

But till date the NIC had not so far responded to the proposal. and delaying on one other pretext, he said.

The urban bio-diversity official further said the State government would take up planting of 12, 97,340 saplings, the Central government and public sector together 5, 35,935 saplings, and the private sector 3, 59,550 saplings.

Apart from it, the GHMC has proposed to distribute 21, 92,825 saplings. It has intended to distribute about 10 lakh saplings to the residential welfare associations, NGOs and the citizens, he said.

The official said to the GHMC would go for geo-tagging and geo fencing technology. The civic body would spend Rs 764 on each sapling towards maintenance cost for three years.
