Adilabad: District Superintendent of Police Vikramjit Duggal has said quoting villagers that development of villages has been taking a back seat because of the Maoist influence in remote villages. He paid a visit to the police training center here on Tuesday and laid the foundation stone for the rainwater harvesting structure on the training center premises. He asked Additional SP GR Radhika to provide basic amenities to impart training to constable trainees.

Speaking on the occasion, he said quoting Gundala, Mangi and Rompelli residents that the official machinery had not been visiting remote villages because of the Maoist threat.

He said that he had visited Tokkiguda, Keriguda, Rompalli and Gundala as part of his two-day tour to Tiryani region accompanied by Officer on Special Duty T Panasa Reddy and Bellampalli Deputy Superintendent of Police A Ramana Reddy. The SP, who trekked six km from Rompelli to Gundala, spoke to villagers to gain firsthand knowledge of their problems.

Quoting villagers, he said drinking water and road development works have been stalled because of the Maoist threat.

Further, doctors are also not visiting villages for fear of inviting the wrath of the Maoists, he said.

Villagers are unitedly working to deny entry of the Maoists to their villages. They are bluntly asking the Maoists not to visit their villages and refusing to cooperate with them, he said adding that the villagers have been attributing government schemes not trickling down to their villages to the Maoists.

The SP said that 23 persons have been working in the ranks of the Maoists from the district and their village elders have been asking them to surrender to the police to pave the way for rural development.

He assured full support to development of villages on behalf of the police department.

He said modern technology would be deployed to prevent activities of the Maoists. The villagers developed hatred for the Maoists and are desirous of development of their villages.

He suggested police stations to build a rain water harvesting structure in their premises to make optimum use of water.

He reviewed functioning of the She Teams in the district and asked them to step up vigil as colleges are getting reopened. He asked them to install sign boards on college premises and develop rapport with the college girls.
