Mahbubnagar: District Collector Dr T K Sridevi launched the ‘Badi Baata’ programme and had set a target of admitting 1 lakh ‘out of school’ children into schools across the district.

While taking part in the ‘Grama Jyothi’ programme at Veerayapally in Damaragidda mandal, the Collector herself took all the children who reached five years at the Anganwadi center to primary school in the village for admitting.

Speaking on the occasion, she called on all the parents to send their children to school and build a bright future for them. “It is the responsibility of every individual to ensure that all children reaching five years of age go to school,” T K Sridevi said.

Taking forward the Badi Baata programme, the district administration has been working in a planned manner to identify school dropouts and ‘out of school’ children and enroll them into government schools.

This move by the district administration is also aimed at increasing the total strength of students in government schools. Earlier, the Education department officials conducted a survey across the district and found out that 9,221 children are not attending schools, government or private.

Of this, 6,160 have been identified as ‘out of school’ and dropout students. The remaining students fall under less than five year old who have been lodged at Anganwadi centres. Parents of these students have been convinced by the officials to allow their wards to be admitted into government schools.

The Badi Baata progarmme had been successfully taken up Mahbubnagar, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Shadnagar and Nagarkurnool divisions in the district.

However, the parents are of the opinion that the government should also start the English medium schools in the villages so that they will send their children to government schools instead of private.

District Education Officer Vijay Laxmi Bai has been bestowed with the responsibility of making the Badi Baata programme a big success in the district.
