​Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday directed the officials to issue guidelines for implementation of Kalyanalakshmi/ Shadi Mubarak scheme as this is being extended to Backward Classes and economically backward communities.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to see that the cheques reach the bride’s mother well before the girl’s marriage. He wanted the officials to ensure that the entire procedure is transparent and the scheme bring happiness to the family of the bride.

KCR said, with unique initiative of providing financial assistance to the bride’s family, the Kalyanalakshmi/ Shadi Mubarak scheme has created a history in the country. Till now it has benefited over one lakh families since its inception on September 24, 2014. As many as 44,351 Scheduled Caste girls, 25,793 Scheduled Tribes girls, 33,913 Minority girls totalling 1,04,057 had availed the benefits.

The government had spent Rs 530 crore on this scheme till now. The government had received information that the scheme had brought happiness on the faces of the many families in the State.The government has now decided to extend the scheme to BCs and also to the economically backward communities.

It had allocated Rs 150 crore under Minorities Department for 2016-17, Rs 200 crore for SC welfare, Rs 738 crore for ST welfare. The scheme has checked the child marriages and brought a social change, felt the Chief Minister. The government would allot more money for the scheme, if necessary.
