Hyderabad: Legislative Council Congress party Deputy Floor Leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Monday urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to roll back the decision the leasing out of Bayyaram Iron Ore Mines to a private company. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, he said the tribal people in the area were in a state of panic since announcement of the decision.

He also expressed the fear that such an action could violate the Tribal Act. These tribals were demanding that the rights of lease of Iron Ore Mines should be exclusively given to the Tribal Societies. “As per the AP Reorganisation Act 2013, it is the central government which has to establish the iron ore factory and not by private persons,” he stated.

“It is alleged that the government is trying to lease out mines to Reliance, Jindal and some other private companies and it is certainly not good in larger interests of the State,” he said. Sudhakar Reddy demanded that the State government take up the issue with the Central government as per the AP Reorganisation Act and protect the rights of tribals. During YSR’s tenure, these iron ore mines had been given to Rakshana Steels on lease.
