Child Rights activists have called for better Centre-State relations for improving the status of refugees in Telangana. According to a survey done by an organization, Save the Children (STC), there are currently 6,000 refugees in the State who are living in deprived conditions.

Addressing a conference on ‘Deliberations on the Protection of Refugees’ on the occasion of International Refugee Day, STC activist Alka Singh said there was a need to insist that government took care of its guests and provided necessary facilities.

She said refugees in the State were struggling mainly due to lack of employment, food, health and education which could only be taken care with the combined efforts of both the Centre and the State.

Observing the International Refugee Day on Monday, STC, in collaboration with TS Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, launched a new school exclusively for refugees of Rohingya community residing in Balapur area.
