Left parties protest against power RTC bus tariff hike

Khammam: Three Left parties – CPI, CPM and CPI-ML New Democracy – staged protest demonstrations separately here on Friday, in protest against the power and RTC bus tariff hike.

CPI district council secretary Bagam Hemanth Rao, who led the protest, accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of deceiving the people. “KCR, who time and again claims Telangana is a rich State, needs to answer why this hike was proposed.”

Stating that the region was reeling under acute drought conditions, he said that the power tariff hike which is coming into effect from July 1 will break the back of the common man.

While the NDA government has been inflicting blow after blow on the people with a steep hike in prices of petrol and diesel, the State government has come up with a heavy burden by increasing power tariffs and RTC bus fares, Rao said. He said that this will have a cascading effect on the prices of all essential commodities making life miserable for the people.

The TRS, which vowed Bangaru Telangana, totally failed to fulfill its pre-election promises, Rao alleged, criticising the government for not having concern towards poor.

He threatened to intensify the agitation if the government fails to roll back the hike in power and RTC tariffs. Earlier, the cadres took out a rally starting from party office to the RDO office. They burned the effigy of the government.

Senior leaders Singu Narsimha Rao, Jammula Jitender Reddy, Md Salam, BG Clement, Ch Sitamahalaxmi, Mekala Srinivasa Rao, Bejawada Ravi Babu, Thati Nirmala, Ch Venkanna, Yedlapalli Shankaraiah, Gade Laxminarayana, Sk Saida, Nagamani, Boda Veeranna, Adapa Jawahar Babu, Mekala Pullaiah, Dasari Ramu, Md Rehman, Adepu Ashok and Jala Santhosh were among others who took part in the protest.

Leading the New Democracy workers, party’s city secretary K Srinivas demanded the government to withdraw its decision to hike power and RTC fares.

The activists burned the effigy of the government near RTO office on the by-pass road. In another protest, the CPM district secretariat member Ponnam Venkateswarlu predicted that the downfall of the TRS government due to its anti-people policies. Party division secretary Yerra Srinivasa Rao advised the government not to see the RTC as a revenue generating source. The activists burned the effigy of the government at R&B guest house here.
