Warangal: TPCC former president Ponnala Lakshmaiah has demanded the State government execution of the works of Kakatiya Thermal Power Project third phase at Bhupalpalli in Warangal district.

In 2013, the Congress government proposed third phase power plant with a capacity of 800 MW was proposed to be set at Dubbapalli village near Bhupalpalli, in addition to the 1100 MW now being generated by the KTPP-I and KTPP-II, he said.

The third phase project has got all the clearances it needed. But the TRS government, instead of taking forward the project execution, has neglected it and shifted it to Damaracherla Mandal in Nalgonda district set up 4,400-MW ultra thermal power plant proposed, he alleged.

The thermal power project proposed at Nalgonda was yet to receive environmental clearance, he added.
Speaking to presspersons in Hanamkonda on Wednesday, Lakshmaiah complained that the TRS government was intentionally throwing the projects proposed by Congress government in cold storage.

In the name of projects redesign Kanthanapally and Devadula irrigation projects on river Godavari in the district were also being neglected. ‘The people in Warangal district expected the TRS government to expedite the execution of ongoing projects; on the contrary, the government was shelving the projects,’ the Congress leader said. If the above projects were faulty and were against the interests of the people, why Chandrashekar Rao had the poll alliance with Congress in 2004? he posed.

Referring to the issue of revival of BILT factory located at Kamalapur in the district, he said in last December the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, has assured the protesting workers to reopen the factory within 15 days. Nearly 18 months passed but there are no signs of restarting the factory, he pointed out.

The CM was acting autocratically and was neither consulting the Opposition parties nor open to their suggestions. ‘It is ok if he wants to claim the credit for his works. But it is necessary to see that the works commenced would be completed in a proper manner,’ Lakshmaiah noted.

He strongly condemned the arrests of Jangaon Zilla Sadhana JAC leaders and sending them to judicial custody. None of the arrested leaders have committed violent acts during the protests. The police have foisted false cases against them, he alleged.
Later on the day, Lakshmaiah visited the JAC leaders lodged at Jangaon sub-jail.
