Adilabad: Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao said that the government would encourage and patronise honest officers who work with great commitment but warned that those who fail to discharge their responsibilities effectively would be punished. Addressing a review meeting at the Collectorate in the town on Wednesday, he directed the officials concerned to take steps and complete the pending projects immediately.

The Irrigation Minister told the officials to blacklist those contractors who shirk their responsibilities and refuse to work in completing the pending irrigation projects. They should also be punished severely, he added. He said that in future, water should be supplied through pipelines without constructing canals. The Yellampally reservoir would be completely filled up and water would be supplied to the farmers, he added.

Minister Harish Rao inquired from the officials about the progress made under Mission Kakatiya works. They told him that they took up 568 tanks in the district in the first phase of the works and among these, works relating to the filling up of 30 tanks have been totally completed and similarly, several lakes were also filled up. Similarly, they said that under the second phase of Mission Kakatiya, works relating to the filling up of 468 lakes were still going on.

The Irrigation Minister also felicitated those officials who took steps to provide irrigated water to 120,000 acres of land under the Mission Kakatiya and Jaika projects. He also enquired from the officials concerned about the progress being made in the completion of 24 medium sized projects.

He upbraided the officials for their laxity and indifference in the completion of works relating to Komaram Bheem project and told them to speed up the works immediately.

Harish Rao said that if there were any problems in acquiring land under the Land Acquisition Act, the officials should take up the issue with the local MLA and get it resolved. He said that water was being supplied to 12,000 acres this year under the Gaddenna project.

He said that for the completion of the NTR Sager, Jagannnadhpur and Neelvai projects, Rs 239 crore were required and the MLAs Ministers from the district, and officials should take up the issue with the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and ensure the release of funds.

The Irrigation Minister told the District Collector Jaganmohan to take steps and ensure the sanctioning of houses to those who were displaced due to the projects. He told him to work in tandem with the local MLAs and MPs to complete the pending projects.
