He disclosed that Rs 5 would be paid to farmers every month for planting and saving 50 saplings, while calling to stop unnecessary criticism of the prestigious Haritha Haram programme by Telangana Congress Committee leader Bhatti Vikramarka. While denying any corruption in the programme, Ramanna pointed out that the criticism was ‘out of jealousy’.

Saplings are available to people at the private nurseries. Ramanna revealed that during the first phase of the programme the government had decided to plant 40 crore saplings. ‘But only 15.86 crore saplings were planted due to deficit rainfall. As many as 25 crore saplings are ready and steps would be taken to plant 40,000 saplings in each village across the State. All arrangements have been made to plant four crore saplings in Adilabad district’.

People are mainly asking for teak, fruit and flower-bearing plants. If the plants sought by the people are not available in the district, they should be brought from adjoining districts by vehicles. The distribution would be done through Haritha Parirakshana Committees at village level.

Ramanna said a toll-free number has been installed both at the State level and in districts for people to consult the officials regarding their requirements of saplings.

‘The government is taking steps to ensure protection of the saplings, by appointing government officials as caretakers. Depending on their reports, funds would be sanctioned for the purpose. The minister stated that KCR would visit all districts, including Adilabad, to ensure successful implementation of the programme.
