Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor B Rammohan exhorted the people to become a unified force and plant saplings as part of their social responsibility. The people of the twin cities should take up the responsibility for making the 'Haritha Haram' programme in Hyderabad on Monday, July 11, a grand success, said Rammohan.

Addressing the media along with Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiyuddin and Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy on Sunday, Rammohan said the green drive programme of the government was getting a tremendous response from students to military officials.

Though the target is to plant 25 lakh saplings on Monday, we expect to surpass it and plant about 35 lakh saplings. I request the people to participate enthusiastically in this programme and turn Hyderabad into a green corridor," said the Mayor.

They Mayor and his deputy said the officials have made all arrangements to ensure that 80 per cent of the plants reach the destination points by Sunday evening and the rest by Monday morning. They requested all schools, colleges and private and government offices to participate in the green drive. They informed that the entire official machinery and leaders of all levels would be participating in the flagship scheme of the government, in accordance with the instructions of the Chief Minister.

Our responsibility does not end with just planting the saplings. We also have to protect them with meshes and covers,” remarked the Mayor and added that the plantation drive was being conducted to ensure that main roads, empty places and other locations get green cover.
