Zaheerabad: Student community is outraged over the suspicious death of Nadimidoddi Divya, a topper of her school, who had recently joined Intermediate course. Ten days have passed since her body was discovered on a railway track on the outskirts of her village, but there has been no headway in the investigation of the case.

  • Divya, a student of Inter first year and topper of the school in Class 10, was found dead on railway tracks
  • Student unions demand immediate action against the perpetrators of the alleged rape and murder

Divya (15) was the youngest daughter of N Ratnaiah, working as a Field Assistant in NREGS and a resident of Madri village of Kohir mandal in Medak district. It was just her fourth day at Sravanthi Junior College in Zaheerabad town, about 12 kilometres away from her village.

She had informed her father that she was going to attend a birthday party at Bagareddipally village located within Zaheerabad town on June 30 after the college hours, but did not return home that night. Her body was found lying on the railway track on the outskirts of her village, on July 1, with some parts of her body, books and other items scattered all over the place. Her body was totally unrecognisable.

Villagers could not identify the body as trains kept running over it which was right between the railway track. Ratnaiah and his son Dilip Kumar identified the body as Divya’s seeing her footwear lying nearby. Even though the village is in Medak district, Railway police of Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district have been investigating the case, because of jurisdictional issues.

Even the postmortem was delayed, due to which doctors could not make a preliminary analysis of the possible cause of death, as the body had started decomposing. Her viscera and other samples were sent to forensic lab, the report of which is still awaited. Though Divya mentioned a birthday party, the railway police, upon investigation, found that no such party was celebrated there on June 30.

But sources say that children who were guests at a baby’s first birthday function had seen Divya in the party. They said Divya had also performed dance to two songs at that party and had left the party saying that she needed to get an auto to her village, even as her friends insisted her on staying back that night.

Divya had no cell phone. She called her father twice to inform him that she was not coming home on June 30, at around 8 pm and 8.20 pm, using others’ phones. A third call came to Ratnaiah from a person who was his son-in-law’s friend.

Activists of ABVP, MRPS and DDS have been holding rallies and protests for the past few days demanding immediate action against the perpetrators of the alleged rape and murder. Divya had recently been felicitated by Zaheerabad MP BB Patil for being the topper of ZPHS, Gurujwada in her Class 10.
