Hyderabad: Nearly 6,000 private vehicles have been seized and close to 7,000 cases booked in a joint operation by TSRTC and RTA officials in the last two weeks, as part of the government’s efforts to crackdown on illegal private operators in the State.

Officials said the drive against the operators would be a regular affair. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, during his day-long meeting last month, had directed the TSRTC officials to coordinate with the transport department and overcome problems of illegal transportation by the private transporters. The CM had appointed joint transport commissioner (vigilance) B Venkatesh -warlu as the co-coordinator for the officials of TSRTC and RTA.

Officials succeeded in cracking the whip on private operators following exchange of information between officials of both the departments. A transport department official said that cases have been booked on vehicles with overload, on contract carriages running as stage carriers and for plying on unauthorized routes.

Acting in tandem with TSRTC officials, the RTA officials booked cases on buses on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Hyderabad-Kurnool and Hyderabad-Bangalore route for plying as stage carriers even though they possessed only a contract carriage license.

Talking to The Hans India, Venkateshwarlu said the department had created two eight-member teams, which would visit districts facing severe shortage of staff and take up the drive against illegal operators. Social networking has come in handy for the transport department to identify erring operators.

“We have created a WhatsApp group and enrolled regional managers and depot managers in it. Whenever there is any issue, they pass on the information to our group and our officials rush to the spot and take immediate action,” said Venkateshwarlu.

He said that the move was generating profits. The department has also provided one AMVI per district to coordinate with the transport officials at local levels.

Sharing his experience, Venkateshwarlu said that recently, the Parigi depot manager urged him to remove their seized buses from the premises stating that it was causing inconvenience to passengers.

Immediately, orders were given for the removal of seized buses from the location, he said. He said that RTA in coordination with TSRTC would continue with the crackdown on illegal private operators across the State.
