Hyderabad: Potholes, waterlogging and overflowing drains greet people of East Anandbagh, Mettuguda, Mirjalguda, Malkajgiri and Safilguda everyday as they venture out of their houses.

Motorists here face risky and rough rides whenever they pass through these areas. The situation has become worse following incessant rains over the past one week.

“The roads are really terrible. If a bus passes by, the motorists on the opposite direction has to wait as the roads are congested. Adding to the bad roads, it is the sticky mud that splurts out whenever a vehicle goes through the stagnant water.

The haphazard approach of the Water Board in laying fresh drinking water pipelines is the biggest culprit,” said P Ravinder Reddy, a resident of Dayanand Nagar.

“Instead of laying new roads, they filled the potholes with rubbish and construction waste a few days back. The vehicles skid on these roads and recently I too was a victim. The government must immediately start the repair works,” urges Anand Kumar, a resident of East Anandbagh.

Four-wheel vehicle users find it difficult to drive as most of the internal roads have also been dug up. “I find it difficult to even park my car because of the dug-up roads,” said Mani Shankar, a resident of Uttam Nagar.

Housewife P Anisha, a resident of Mirjalguda, says she is scared to send her kid to play as the road has been dug up and there is no sign board indicating that.

Ch Gopal Krishna, a techie who resides at Mettuguda, says that the government should ensure that no allied works are taken up once the roads are laid. “Whenever roads are laid, they are dug up again within two or three months for laying cables or pipelines. This should be avoided,” he says.

The residents of these areas rue that despite several complaints and representations to the civic body, their efforts have not yielded much. They urged the government to complete works of laying new roads at the earliest.

Responding to queries on the pathetic condition of roads in surrounding areas of Malkajgiri, Safilguda Corporator Sirisha Jitendar said that the government had sanctioned Rs 76 lakh for laying new roads and the work would start in about two weeks.
